ASA Philippines launches nationwide movement to plant over 1 million trees with Puno ng PagASA campaign

TAGUIG CITY, Philippines – ASA Philippines Foundation, a leading microfinance institution dedicated to poverty alleviation, recently launched a campaign video to enjoin everyone to take part in its #PunongPagASA nationwide movement.

With the goal of planting over 1 million fruit-bearing trees by 2027, the campaign is part of the foundation’s Environmental Stewardship Program (ESP) to help nurture a brighter future – not just for its Nanay clients and their families, but for generations of Filipinos to come.

The #PunoNgPagASA movement is built on three core pillars, engaging every level of the ASA community:

  • ASA Employees called #ASAGreenChampions: The 12,000-strong ASA family leads the movement by each planting one fruit-bearing tree in their homes.
  •
  • Nanay Clients referred to as #ASANanayTreeGuardians: The campaign empowers ASA’s two million Nanay clients to plant one fruit-bearing tree each, either in their own backyard or in communal areas.
  •
  • LGU and Community Partners as #ASACommunityStewards: ASA Philippines will also partner with farming communities and LGUs to restore 23 reforestation sites. This will be achieved by planting high-value crops through agroforestry. This initiative also contributes to the national priorities of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources’ (DENR) National Greening Program by helping restore degraded ecosystems, reducing carbon emissions, and creating co-benefits for communities.

“We recognize that our mission to Grow Hope (Palaguin ang Pag-asa) must expand beyond our homes and business. The Puno ng PagASA Tree-planting and Reforestation Program is part of our commitment to sustainability and to integrate climate action into our social mission. This is not just about planting trees; it’s about planting a future source of food and sustained income for the families of our Nanay clients and many other households,” said Rapa Lopa, President and CEO of ASA Philippines Foundation.

This initiative also contributes to the national priorities of the Department of Environment and National Resources’ (DENR)   National Greening Program by helping restore degraded ecosystems, reducing carbon emissions, and creating co-benefits for communities.

Recognizing the growing impact of climate change in the country, ASA Philippines aims to encourage every Filipino to contribute through the simple act of planting a tree in order to reap a more significant and long-term reward. ASA Philippines calls on its entire family, its clients, and its community partners to work hand-in-hand and embrace the challenge.

ASA Philippines Foundation President and CEO Rapa Lopa invites every Filipino to take part in the Puno ng PagASA Tree and Reforestation Nationwide Program.

LGU and community partners serve as #ASACommunityStewards, planting high-value crops to restore a total of 23 reforestation sites.
